F10 Germicidal Wound Spray 100ml (for All Animals Except Cats)

F10 Germicidal Wound Spray 100ml (for All Animals Except Cats)

F10® Germicidal Wound Spray With Insecticide is a spot treatment which combines the antimicrobial action of F10® SC Disinfectant with the added insecticidal activity of Cypermethrin (0.25%) and Piperonyl Butoxide (1.25%) to produce a ready to use topical, spot-on application spray.

The Antimicrobial action of the F10® actives provide a local antibacterial cover to assist wound healing (and reduce fly-attracting putrefactive odours) whilst the cypermethrin both repels and kills insects and their larvae. It is commonly used in the prevention and treatment of myasis.

    FEATURES:

    • Wound treatment: The F10 core actives in the F10 Wound Spray with Insecticide will treat infected wounds and act as a barrier to re-infection of open wound sites e.g. trauma, castration, de-budding, de-horning, dart wounds and abscesses.
    • Insect repellent: Where there is a risk of fly-strike e.g. during or after diarrhoea, urinary incontinence or wound drainage, a single application of the product will protect the site against blow flies and other insects for up to 5 days.
    • Fly strike treatment: One initial application of 2-3 sprays of the F10 Wound Spray on an infested area will result in the immediate migration away from the site and death of all maggots within 30 minutes – no need for mechanical removal of larvae.

Debrizyme Aerosol Spray 150ml for All Animals

Debrizyme Aerosol Spray 150ml for All Animals

DEBRIZYME is  an  aerosol wound dressing spray.  DEBRIZYME aids in  the treatment of external wounds and also assists healing through debridement and by stimulation of epithelial tissue.

    COMPOSITION:
Each gram of DEBRIZYME contains 0, 125g trypsin crystalline, 290mg castor oil, 40mg peru balsam, 200i.u. vitamin A and Si.u.vitamin E.

    DISCUSSION:

    • Trypsin is a proteolytic enzyme and acts as a mild  debriding agent.  It is  effective  in  the  removal of necrotic tissue, exudate and coagulated blood.
    • Peru balsam is used to increase circulation  in  the  wound  site  area  by  dilation  of the  blood vessels. Increasing the local blood  flow brings  nutrients  and  oxygen  needed  for re- epithelialisation to the wound much faster and this also  means a more rapid  removal  of products of skin necrosis. Peru balsam also  has  a mild  bactericidal  action  and  promotes wound granulation.
    • Castor oil increases epithelialisation. It reduces premature epithelial dehydration and keratinisation.
    • Miyamoto has demonstrated an acceleration of cell renewal and wound healing with topically applied vitamin A  and vitamin  E1
    • There are no adverse skin/cell reactions association with the application of DEBRIZYME.

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Shake the can before use. Use the extension nozzle supplied to spray directly onto the wound site. Apply 2-3 times a day. Avoid spraying into eyes and on fresh arterial clots.

    WOUND HEALING STUDY
Three cases showing open wounds were brought in for treatment. Two were dogs,  both  of which  had  necrotic, contaminated open wounds.  Dog  I  had  been  in  a dog  fight  and  had  had  a piece  of flank  removed;  Dog 2 had  been  hit by a car and suffered a dorsal degloving wound to the left front paw. Both cases were treated  with  a course  of oral antibiotics (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid). The wounds were cleaned and sprayed with DEBRl2YME (Kyron). Acriflavine in Glycerin (Kyron) was then applied and the wound covered with a dressing. The dressings were changed daily and DEBRl2YME was sprayed on the wound before each application of Acriflavine in Glycerin.

A cat, the third case, presented with a wound on its left flank which had been left untreated for some time. The resulting abscess burst, leaving a gaping open wound. The cat was treated with a course of oral antibiotics (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid) and DEBRIZYME alone applied daily.

    Cat

    Cat 1 day 1

    Day 1

    Cat 1 day 1

    Day 1

DEBRlZYME chemically debrides necrotic tissue and stimulates growth  of epithelial  tissue,  which  accelerates  the wound healing process. Trypsin, the debriding agent, is especially important in the first few days when the wound is contaminated and filled with necrotic tissue. Castor oil and  peru  balsam  also  speed  up  epithelialisation.  The overall effect is an acceleration in wound healing, as can be seen by the healthy  granulation  tissue  evident  in  the  later photographs.

Acriflavine in Glycerin, with its mild antibacterial action, is very useful for the treatment  of contaminated  or infected wounds as it promotes wound drainage and has a hygroscopic effect.
All wounds continued to decrease in size with open wound management, and healed well.

Kyron Acriflavine Antiseptic 500ml for All Animals

Kyron Acriflavine Antiseptic 500ml for All Animals

Containing 0.1% acriflavine hydrochloride in glycerin BP, it is a useful antiseptic for use on all animals for the treatment of wounds, cuts and abrasions, for all topical infections, for abscess lavage, or for topical application prior to surgical procedures. Apply daily, or as often as required, to the affected areas. A useful antiseptic (for wounds) .

    DESCRIPTION:

It is a 0, I% solution of Acriflavine in pure Glycerin.

    USES AND ACTION:
Acridines are all potent antiseptics. Acriflavine, like other acridine derivatives, is effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. It possesses the advantage of retaining its activity in the presence of body fluids and pus and of being comparatively free from toxic or  irritant action. Acriflavine is suitable for the treatment of contaminated or suppurating (weeping) wounds. (The wound having being thoroughly cleansed).

Glycerin is used externally for its emollient action. When applied undiluted to mucous membranes or broken skin, glycerin absorbs moisture and enables drugs held in solution to penetrate  more  readily. It is employed  for  its hygroscopic action in inflammatory conditions.

Refer to Protocol for Wound Management: Acriflavine in glycerin solution can be applied into the wound as an alternative if proper irrigation is not possible, because it promotes wound drainage and has a hygroscopic action which may reduce local swelling when applied with well-padded bandages. The wounds are left unsatured to provide adequate drainage. Daily bandage changes are required. Usually for the first 5 – days. The use of an Acriflavine in Glycerin compound in the management of contaminated and infected wounds has stood the test of time in general veterinary practices over five decades. Acriflavine in Glycerin enhances the wound drainage due to its hygroscopic hypertonic action.

SUGGESTED USES OF Berenil® R.T.U.IN THE PREVENTION OF REDWATER

      1. Protection of susceptible cattle being moved through a Redwater areaInject Berenil® R.T.U. at recommended dosage to prevent Asiatic (European) Redwater for 2 weeks and African Redwater for 4 weeks.
      2. Controlling a Redwater outbreak in a cattle herdInject all cattle with Berenil® R.T.U. at recommended dosage. This should stop further cases of Redwater within 24 hours and cure affected animals if not terminally ill.
      3. Protection of stud animals at shows where the immune state of the animals to Redwater is uncertainUse Berenil® R.T.U. at the recommended dosage to prevent Redwater for the periods as mentioned in No. 1 above. Keeping the animals tick free reduces chances of Redwater transmission following these periods.
      4. Routine treatment of cattle arriving at feedlotsThe use of Berenil® R.T.U. in this case renders protection as explained in No. 1 above. Cure of animals already affected by Redwater may be expected, provided they are not terminally ill. The control of ticks on cattle at time of arrival should be coupled to the process.
      5. Vaccine warningShould a bovine be treated for Redwater with Berenil® R.T.U., the animal should not be vaccinated against Asiatic (European) Redwater for 1 month and against African Redwater for 2 months after treatment.If Berenil® R.T.U. has been used to suppress a Redwater vaccine reaction, revaccination of the treated animals is necessary. If immunity to Asiatic (European) Redwater is required, revaccination after 1 month is recommended. If immunity to African Redwater is required, revaccination after 2 months is recommended.

Kyrotrim 100ml for Cattle, Sheep & Pigs

Kyrotrim 100ml for Cattle, Sheep & Pigs

    DESCRIPTION:

Potentiated sulphonamide injection with potent antibacterial action.

    INDICATIONS:

KYROTRIM is indicated for use in cattle, sheep and pigs to treat sulphonamide sensitive infections. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract as well as wound infections and footrot.

    COMPOSITION:
Sterile solution containing Sulphamethoxazole 200 mg/ml and Trimethoprim 40mg/ml

    Preservative: benzyl alcohol 2%.

    DISCUSSION
Sulphonamides combined with dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors, e.g. trimethoprim, constitute a useful class of drugs for the treatment of bacterial infections. Dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors inhibit the conversion of bacterial dihydrofolic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid which is necessary for the synthesis of certain amino acids, purines, and DNA synthesis. Because they act at different points of the folate metabolic pathway a potent synergy exists between these reductase inhibitors and the sulphonamides, with an increase of up to about 10-fold in antibacterial activity, and a bactericidal action where the components individually are generally bacteriostatic. The combination exerts its selective action because of a far greater affinity for the bacterial than the mammalian enzyme. The sulphamethoxazole/trimethoprim combination used in KYROTRIM has been used in a wide variety of infections caused by susceptible organisms, particularly those of the urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts. The antibacterial spectrum of the combination is broad and includes a high proportion of anaerobic bacteria, Nocardia, Chlamydia, and Toxoplasma spp. Potentiated sulphonamides have repeatedly been shown to be therapeutically useful in treating veterinary microbial infections in both small and large animals. They have been used to treat susceptible bacterial populations (including Staphylococcus spp.) in the skin, both topically and systemically. Potentiated sulphonamides are effective against many Staphylococcal spp. and gram-negative rods and are used extensively in the treatment of canine pyoderma.

    DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
By intramuscular injection 1 ml per 15 kg body mass daily for 5 days.
In cases of severe infection the dose can be increased to 1,5 ml per 15 kg body mass.

Felisine 60g Palatable Herpes Treatment Paste for Cats 60g

Felisine 60g Palatable Herpes Treatment Paste for Cats 60g

FELISINE is a palatable paste for cats containing L-Lysine. FELISINE paste for cats offers a new option in managing complications caused by Feline Herpes virus (FHV-1) infections.

    COMPOSITION:

Each gram of FELISINE contains L-Lysine 250mg in a palatable gel.

    DISCUSSION:

    Feline Herpesvirus
Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) infection is a common cat disease characterised by sneezing, inflammation of the nose and eyes, corneal ulcers and fever. Surveys have revealed that up to 97% of cats harbour this virus. The virus remains in the
animal after initial exposure and lies dormant in a latent state in nerve tissue near the brain. During periods of stress the virus can travel down the nerves and injure the cornea in one or both eyes. Some conditions that can cause stress in
cats include: the introduction of a new cat or dog to the household, relocating the cat or even leaving the cat when going away on holiday.

    L-Lysine supplementation
There is no known cure for FHV-1 but the condition can be managed. Studies have shown that cats supplemented with the correct dose of lysine experience less severe clinical signs of FHV-1 following experimental infection than a placebo
1 group . The amount of lysine that cats normally ingest when following their normal diet is not sufficient to inhibit FHV-1 replication. In another study, cats exposed to stressful conditions known to induce viral shedding showed reduced viral 2 shedding after oral administration of L-Lysine .

    Mode of action
FHV-1 replication and growth requires the presence of arginine, an amino acid. When administered as a supplement, LLysine (also an amino acid) competes with arginine, so inhibiting viral replication. Supplementation of L-Lysine does not 2 alter the plasma concentration of essential amino acids, nor does it cause arginine deficiency in cats .

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

    The recommended dose is:

Adult cats: 1 to 2 grams twice a day
Kittens: 1 gram twice a day (one gram is equivalent to 1.5cm of gel)

Cats prone to recurrences of FHV-1 infections or that have had more than two episodes of reactivation should be placed on long term FELISINE supplementation.

Cases of intolerance with fatal results are reported in dogs – especially Collies, Old English Sheepdogs and related breeds and crosses, and also in turtles/tortoises. Do not combine treatment with accination against lungworms. If vaccinated animals are to be treated, treatment should not be carried out within a period of 28 days before or after vaccination. The shedding of nematode eggs can continue for some time after treatment.
In Cattle: To avoid secondary reactions due to the death of Hypoderma larvae in the oesophagus or in the spine, it is recommended to administer the product at the end of warble fly activity and before the larvae reach their resting sites. Frequent and repeated use may lead to the development of resistance. It is important that the correct dose is given in order to minimise the risk of resistance. To avoid
under-dosing, animals should be grouped according to their bodyweight and dosed according to the dose of the heaviest animal in the group.
Clinical symptoms of ivermectin toxicity include ataxia and depression. No antidote has been identified. In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment should be given. No signs of toxicity were observed in animals treated at up to 3 times the recommended
    dose rate.
Soft tissue swelling and thickening of the skin at the injection site has been observed in treated animals. Typically, these reactions are transient and disappear within four weeks. Transitory discomfort has been observed in some animals, immediately following subcutaneous administration. In cattle this may include jumping and rolling, but behaviour returns to normal after 15 minutes.
